I'm Alia, an Egyptian, Brooklyn-based researcher. I recently obtained my PhD from NYU, and am working as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton Center for Information Technology Policy. I'm also a co-founder and creative technologist at Decifer Studio.

Previously, I was a visiting PhD student at Centrum Wiskunde and Informatica (CWI), the Dutch national institute for computer science and math, based at the Distributed and Interactive Systems (DIS) lab.

I research how technology mediates how we learn about and participate in politics, and how to build safe and responsible human interaction with emerging technologies. I build interactive experiences about the impact of technology on society for broad audiences, and experiment with creative storytelling.

I can often be found skateboarding 🛹, making playlists 🎶, and playing football ⚽.
